Sarcastic Visionary – Many years ago, my former boss was lamenting yet another purchase requisition to buy yet another PC. His words at the time were, “At this rate, within three years every employee will have a PC at their desk!” His rant was that this would be a bad thing. But now, everybody does have a PC at their desk! I wonder how many times good sarcasm like this gets overlooked. So when someone is being deliberately sarcastic, try envisioning what the scenario would be like if what he said was true. This might give you some insight into the future and help you get ahead of the curve. Of course, it might just be good sarcasm, but you won’t know until you try and see if there is a scenario where that would make sense. I predict that in 5 years, every major company will have a job titled “Sarcastic Visionary.” (Or maybe I’m just being sarcastic).
