Music Theory – I am a person that likes to listen to various types of music. It usually comes in spurts. I’ll listen to one type of music for a while. Then another type for a while. Then another. I thought this pattern was random, but when I looked back on the timing, the type of music seemed to match my mood. When I listened to jazz, I was very creative. When I listed to rock, I was kind of unsettled. When I listened to country, I was feeling laid back and watching the world go by. Maybe there is similar connection with you. If you like different types of music, it might be a mirror to how you are feeling (and you might not be able to see it at that moment). So what I do is look at the music as a proxy for my mood even before I can tell what my mood is. If I start listening to rock music I ask myself if something is unsettled in my life. If I stop listening to jazz I might wonder what happened to the creativity I had been experiencing. This early warning system helps me keep my life in balance. Maybe it will work for you. And if you only listen to one type of music, have you considered that you might be in a rut?
