Zoning In – I was sitting writing poetry at lunchtime today and several people passed by. I noticed them, but they didn’t notice me. Their singular focus was to get to their car and drive somewhere for lunch. But think of how much they missed while they were on autopilot! Why not turn the mundane into an opportunity for vision. While walking to your car, look at the other cars (who has a new car, where did he buy it), who washes their car and who doesn’t, how many cracked windshields are there. You can do this in a taxi, in the airport, in the grocery checkout line, anywhere. Why bother? I can almost guarantee that you will start to make connections with the little things that you notice to other more important things in your life. It will also keep your mind active and relieve some of the boredom that we all face. So when you are in this kind of situation, try zoning in instead of zoning out. Eventually, it will pay off for you.
